The United Nations Operation in Cote d’Ivoire (UNOCI) was established in Security Council Resolution 1528 (2004) to monitor the cessation of hostilities and movements of armed groups, disarm and dismantle militias, indentify the population and register voters, reform the security sector, protect UN staff and civilians,  monitor the arms embargo, support humanitarian assistance, free and transparent elections, reconstruction and development,  assistance in the field of human rights, maintain law and order, and as relevant, disseminate information to the public.
