The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) was established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1509 (2003) of 19 September 2003. The mandate of the mission is to monitor the ceasefire, develop and implement DDRRR programs, protect civilians, support humanitarian and human rights assistance and the implementation of the peace process, and support the participation of women in conflict prevention, conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
