The displacement of civilian populations is one of the common consequences of conflict and also presents some of the greatest challenges to restoring and maintaining peace and security. Women face particular challenges as refugees and internally displaced persons (those displaced within their own country) and the Security Council has recognized and sought to address these in its resolutions on women, pace and security.
