Designated Officials for Security

This is a list of the current Designated Officials for Security in various countries. The UN Field Security Handbook defines the Designated Official position in this way:

The Secretary-General, in consultation with the executive heads of the other organizations, will designate one senior official to be titled Designated Official who will undertake and special responsibility for the security and protection of the organizations’ staff members and eligible family members and property in each country to which staff members and eligible family members are assigned. Senior officials of all organizations of the United Nations system in the country shall work in close collaboration with the Designated Official who is the key person in the security management arrangements.

At most duty stations, the Designated Official will be the Resident Coordinator/Resident Representative of UNDP. However, for the limited number of countries where someone than the Resident Coordinator/Resident Representative is appointed as Designated Official, the United Nations Security Coordinator will advise accordingly.

The Designated Official will constitute, after consultation with the representatives of the other organizations, a Security Management Team to advise him on all security-related matters.

While the Designated Official is not in charge of the security of non-UN personnel, she or he is often the UNDP Resident Representative or the Resident Coordinator for the UN, who would be of interest to non-UN personnel.

This list is organized alphabetically. To skip to a particular letter, click below.
