The Protocol of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) about gender and development, was approved on Tuesday, with 179 positive votes, none against and none abstention, by the Angolan MPs, during the second extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
While presenting the document, the Angolan deputy minister of Family, Paula do Sacramento, remembered that the protocol, analysed by the Cabinet Council, is included under the government efforts toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to be reached within 25 years.
Under this perspective, she said, in sub-regional SADC view, the heads of State and Government adopted the Declaration of Gender and Development, in 1997, in Malawi, whose objective was to enlarge the space and consistence of the progress toward reaching gender equality in the region.
On the other hand, the resolution project mentions that Angola is interested in consolidating and developing efforts among the several commitments related to the women's rights, of the gender equality and equity, through a regional instrument.
The document indicates that this (instrument) might help to increase the implementation and control of the mentioned instruments all over the country and face new regional challenges, mainly women's poverty and of HIV/AIDS, food security and others.
The second extraordinary session of the National Assembly discussed about the reviewed general State Budget.
