RUSSIA: Stop Forced Dress Code for Women in Chechnya

(Moscow) - Russia should put an end to local rules forcing women in Chechnya to observe an Islamic dress code, Human Rights Watch said today.

Since the start of Ramadan in mid-August, Human Rights Watch has received numerous reports from Chechnya about women being harassed in the streets of Grozny, the republic's capital, for not covering their hair and/or wearing clothes deemed too revealing.

DRC: Rwandan Rebels Raped at Least 179 Women in Congo, Humanitarian Officials Say

A mob of Rwandan rebels gang-raped at least 179 women last month during a weekend raid on a community of villages in eastern Congo, the United Nations said Monday.

The Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, or F.D.L.R., was blamed for the attack. The F.D.L.R. is an ethnic Hutu rebel group that has been terrorizing the hills of eastern Congo for years, preying on villages in a quest for the natural resources beneath them.

IRAN: Iranian Women Protest So-Called Family Protection Bill

Kaleme website reports that Rahnavard has called on the parliament to leave the evaluation of this bill of law to a "group of expert and progressive men and women."

Last week, Iranian media reported that the family protection bill of law, after three years of delay, will be put in the parliament's agenda.

Opponents of this legislation thus organized gatherings and issued articles to protest against it.
