Engagement: Human Rights Council

The Human Rights Council is an intergovernmental UN body made up of 47 UN member states responsible for promoting and protecting human rights, and addressing and providing recommendations on human rights violations. It was created in 2006 and replaced the UN Commission on Human Rights. As part of its work, the Council provides assessments and recommendations of the human rights situations of all 193 UN member states through its Universal Periodic Review mechanism.

WILPF’s Human Rights Programme leads our engagement with the UN Human Rights Council, which includes monitoring, advocacy, and coordination with WILPF sections around the world to provide shadow reports at the country level.
