The primary focus of the Commission on the Status of Women's fifty seventh session in March 2013 will be the “Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls". Over the last two days, in an important step to heighten the success of CSW 57, stakeholders from a variety of sectors—including government, UN, civil society, and the private sector—convened at UN headquarters to reaffirm national commitments and set global priorities. The overwhelming priority emerging from the forums was the fundamental truth that gender based violence is a human rights violation and impunity for perpetrators of such atrocities must end. Several stakeholders also raised the issue of including men and boys in the discussion as well as addressing the lack of economic empowerment hindering so many women from social mobility.
