TRAINING: Liberia: WIPSEN-Africa Provides Leadership Training

The Women Peace and Security Network-Africa (WIPSEN) has provided leadership training for dozens of young girls in Sinoe and Grand Kru Counties.

The training was held under the project named "Young Girls Transformative Leadership project Inter-generational Dialogue."

Speaking on the Topic: "the Young Girls Transformation Leadership Initiatives," the Program Officer of WIPSEN-Africa Madam Loretta A. Pope said the dialogue is intended to identify potential girls and women from the communities.

She pointed out that the project focuses mainly on young women and girls because they are known to have limited opportunities to enhance their job readiness skills after graduating from high school.

Madam Pope said the objective of the training is to enhance the leadership skills of young women and girls to enable them become active agents of change in conflict prevention, conflict resolution and peace building.

The WIPSEN-Africa's program officer said the goals of the project is to strengthen young girls' leadership capacities for the promotion of constructive, innovative and collaborative approaches to non-violent transformation of peace building and human security.

She disclosed that since the launch of the organization in 2008, it has successfully carried out the Young Girls Transformative Leadership programs in 12 of the 15 counties.

According to her, the project has contributed immensely in the transformation of young girls and women leadership potentials, active participation in peer education, community service and political process (voters' education and registration), among others.

She said over the years her organization has improved the lives of more than 800 girls in Liberia under the young girls' transformation, leadership project.

She called on young girls in the two counties to take the training seriously and challenged them to see President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf as an example for African women.
