UGANDA: DRC Militia Raping Women in Kisoro

The government has expressed concerned about militia groups from the Democratic Republic of Congo who are on rampage in western Uganda.

The Minister of Disaster Preparedness Musa Ecweru says the militia groups infiltrated the country as part of the refugees fleeing renewed tension in DRC.

Musa Ecweru says there are militia reported in Kisoro district roaming gang raping women, killing, looting and causing insecurity.

He says the government has put up a red alert for the militia and efforts are being made to arrest the militia members.

The minister says they have started with relocating refugees in gazette areas so that it no refugees are mixing with the local communities.

He says the government working with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees has screened and relocated over 200 refugees to Omucinga resettlement camp.

The are increasing inflow of refugees from DRC from out break of fighting after the contested presidential election which were won by incumbent Joseph Kabila.
