Draft Guidelines for Political Affairs Officers to support implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on Women, Peace and Security (SCR-1325)

These brief guidelines have been prepared to assist DPKO Political Affairs Officers (PAOs) to identify and respond to gender-related issues relevant to their work aswell as to contribute to ensuring that policy and guidance fromHeadquarters reinforce the democratic and inclusive principle of women's equal participation in post-conflict processes.

This effort is in accordance with the provisions of Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security, by which PAOs are required to ensure that their work advances the goal of gender equality in order to: (a) build amore sustainable basis for long-termpeace in conflictaffected countries and; (b) promote the equal rights of women and men in post-conflict situations.
