Trusteeship Council

In setting up an International Trusteeship System, the Charter established the Trusteeship Council as one of the main organs of the United Nations and assigned to it the task of supervising the administration of Trust Territories placed under the Trusteeship System. Major goals of the System were to promote the advancement of the inhabitants of Trust Territories and their progressive development towards self-government or independence.

ICJ International Court of Justice

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal United Nations judicial organ. Established in June 1945 by the UN Charter, the ICJ has dual jurisdiction, settling legal disputes submitted by States (contentious cases) and providing advisory opinions on questions of law (advisory proceedings).

UNIDIR United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) was established in 1980 by the General Assembly in an effort to create a holistic understanding of disarmament issues, available to all Member States. The mandate of UNIDIR falls under the management of the Secretary-General's Advisory Board of Disarmament Matters and reports directly to the General Assembly.
