Djibouti hosts several foreign military bases for France, Germany, Japan, Spain, the United States, and soon China. The US base, Camp Lemonnier, and the nearby Chabelley airfield is currently the biggest. The number of US military personnel stationed there has increased by 450 percent since 2002 and has expanded from 88 acres to nearly 200 acres.
