The 52nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York from 25 February to 7 March 2008.
The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is an intergovernmental body entirely dedicated to promoting gender equality and empowering women. Established in 1946, the Commission meets in New York in late February or early March each year to draft Agreed Conclusions or recommendations for strengthening gender equality, development and peace.

UN Women is governed by an Executive Board that oversees the organization's operational activities based on policy directions set by the UN General Assembly, ECOSOC and the Commission on the Status of Women. The Board engages with the executive boards of other UN development agencies to coordinate work on gender across the UN system.
