The fifty-third session of the Commission on the Status of Women took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 2 to 13 March 2009.

  • Review theme: Equal participation of women and men in decision-making processes at all levels
  • Emerging Issue: The gender perspectives of the financial crisis

Highlight: 

At CSW 53 (2009), 83 WILPF members participated in the events and discussions on issues of equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including caregiving in the context of HIV/AIDS, at all levels of decision making, and gender perspectives on the financial crisis. WILPF did not organize any side-events at this session.
