Policy Brief Series: Women, Peace and Security and the Generation Equality Action Coalitions

The year 2020 was commemorated by key milestones for gender equality. As part of the Generation Equality Forum, UN Women, France, and Mexico launched six Action Coalitions, with the intention to deliver concrete and transformative change towards gender equality over the next five years. In parallel, The Generation Equality Forum will also develop a new Compact for Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action

To deliver concrete action towards gender equality and human rights, we believe it is critical that the work of the Action Coalitions and the Compact are guided by the priorities of feminist peace activists and women peacebuilders.  As a Catalytic Member of the Generation Equality Compact for Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action, WILPF is focusing on women’s meaningful participation in peace processes.

Today, we are happy to share six briefs connecting the Action Coalitions and the Compact with women, peace, and security concerns. These are meant to inform and guide the work of the Action Coalitions and the Compact for Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action from a feminist peace perspective.

Drawing on the expertise of civil society activists, WILPF members and local organizational partners around the world, these briefs provide direction for a more holistic, intersectional, human rights-centered approach on gender equality, highlighting concrete recommendations for how action on these issues can advance feminist peace, challenge militarism, and support the human rights of women and girls in conflict-affected countries. Their release parallels our ongoing advocacy work to shape the Action Coalitions and the Compact.
