Kuito — The minister of Mass Media, Carolina Cerqueira, Wednesday in in Kuito, central Bie province, called on parents and guardians to encourage their children, especially women, to join the schools in order to better participate in local development.

Speaking to the reporters, the Cabinet minister expressed concern over the low number of students attending the schools.

According to her, this may eventually lead to early marriages, as happens in many rural areas.

The official stressed that Angola's future depends on the commitment of men and women, thus there is the need for women to dedicate themselves to academic or professional training, instead to opt for weddings or other unworthy acts.

The Angolan government is engaged in building of schools, training centres and universities, said the minister, adding that it is to the youth, particularly women, to engage more in order to correspond with the purposes outlined by the State, ensuring the training of quality for all.
