The secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, George Chicoti, is since Sunday in New York, where he is participating in the annual substantive session of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), reads a press note.

The meeting, that has as theme gender equality and woman promotion, is assessing the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and other international commitments agreed in this chapter, as well as other themes of development.

Divided in five areas, namely high level, co-ordination, operational activities, humanitarian and general section, ECOSOC substantive session will take place between June 28 and July 23.

At the end of the high level session it will be adopted a ministerial declaration, in which the states acknowledge gender equality and women promotion as one of the matters for sustainable development and call the attention to urgent mobilisation of collective efforts, meant for the materialisation of these goals.

The referred council is the UN organ in charge of the co-ordination of social and economic activities and outlining of policies in matters of international co-operation for development.
