Bosnia and Herzegovina was one of the 200 countries in the world that joined the One Billion Rising Campaign and rose to demand an end to violence against women and girls.

Almost 200 organizations and institutions throughout the country supported the campaign and people were dancing in a total of 37 cities and towns. In the capital, hundreds of citizens of all ages gathered to dance in the Square of the Children of Sarajevo (see video at http://vimeo.com/59706811).

The Campaign was coordinated by women and youth civil society organizations.

UN Women was one of the many organizations that actively supported this event that aimed to draw more attention to violence against women as a serious violation of human rights. Many Bosnian public celebrities - artists, journalists, actors, directors, ambassadors, sports people and musicians - also joined the campaign.
