A Women's organization in Cote d'Ivoire, the International Forum of Women for Development and Peace (FIFEM), on Tuesday launched a nation-wide campaign, urging Ivorian women to vote massively in Sunday's presidential polls, PANA reported from here.

The campaign train criss-crossed Abidjan, the capital, and will go through other major cities in the country.

The FIFEM Chair, Ms Salimata Porquet, said the aim was to massively involve Ivor ian women in the country's electoral process, including Sunday's polls.

Porquet hopes that through this initiative, the women turnout at the polls will reach 70% against the 30% recorded in previous elections.

She said the polls were of huge interest to the women who bore the brunt of the crisis that erupted in September 2002.

'Their massive turnout in these elections will help end the crisis,' she said.

Fourteen candidates, including President Laurent Gbagbo, former president Henri Kona Bedie, and former Prime Minister Alassane Ouattara, are running in the presidential polls.
