DRC: EU Extends Mission in Support of Security Sector Reform

The Council adopted a decision extending until 30 September 2012 the EU mission to provide advice and assistance for security sector reform in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) (12855/10).


The EU has been conducting the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) mission, "EUSEC RD Congo", since May 2005, with the aim of assisting the Congolese authorities in setting up a defence apparatus capable of guaranteeing the security of the Congolese people, while respecting democratic standards, human rights and the rule of law, as well as the principles of good governance and transparency.
