Dear IANSA Women's Network and friends,
As a result of last year's successful pilot women-only Training Institute on 'Women and small arms control' in Ethiopia, the second Institute is now underway in Central America.
This 4 day Institute is being held in Mexico City from 20-23 April 2010, and will provide direction to IANSA Women's Network members, female police officers, and government officials working in the field of SALW control. Participants come from Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Puerto Rico.
Thanks to CASAC (The Central American Small and Light Weapons Control Programme), and Redcepaz for supporting the training and partnering with the IANSA Women's Network and SweFOR in this training. We are also grateful to the Folke Bernadotte Academy for its support for the translation of the training materials into Spanish.
A full report will be available in the coming weeks.
In solidarity,
Sarah
