Eritrea: Women in Afabet Sub-Zone Leading Improved Lifestyle

Afabet — Women in Afabet sub-zone are leading improved lifestyle thanks to the loan opportunity that encouraged them to engage in small-scale agriculture and business ventures.

They explained that previously they had no access to job that could generate income. At present, however, the 150 women have secured loan from the Micro-credit and Savings Scheme in the sub-zone and have already registered improvement in their living standard.

Noting that a number of women are being engaged in low wage labor, the women stated that such loan opportunity need to continue in an enhanced and expanded manner.

The head of the NUEW branch in the sub-zone, Ms. Saedia Mohammed Adem, said on her part that noticeable changes are being witnessed in women's lifestyle as a result of the continued support and awareness raising campaign. She further indicated that the task of organizing women in the sub-zone is being reinforced.
