The Estonian government approved on Thursday of the Estonian action plan for implementing the UN Security Council resolution “Women, Peace and Security” in Estonia in 2010–2014, which supports bigger role of women in state defense, informed BC foreign ministry.

Foreign minister Urmas Paet said that the UN Security Council resolution reflects the understanding that the key to solving conflicts and crises and guaranteeing peace is defence of civilian population and more active role of women.

By now, nearly 20 states have compiled their state action plan to implement the resolution.

“The importance of the resolution and aims set in it for Estonia is confirmed by the fact that on November 11-12 an international conference, organised by the foreign ministry and Estonian NATO society to celebrate the 10th anniversary of UN resolution 1325 takes place. We focus on the situation of women in Afghanistan, more specifically,” said Paet.
