IRAQ: Joint Committee Formed to Expand Women Participation in Decision-Making

The Minister of State for Women's Affairs in the federal government revealed on Monday forming a joint committee with the Ministry of Culture to develop a joint work plan and identify mechanisms for its application, pointing out that she discussed with the Minister of Culture , mechanisms to broaden the participation of women in order to access the decision-making positions in cultural institutions.

Ibtihal al- Zaidi told AKnews that she has agreed during a meeting with the Culture Minister, Saadoun al-Dulaimi on naming a joint committee of the two ministries in order to develop a joint work plan and determine the mechanisms applied in cultural affairs.

"The Committee will be able to give women opportunities and wider spaces to enable her access decision-making positions in cultural, administrative, technical and leadership institutions," noting that "that will reflect positively on the quality and quantity of their integration in various programs."

"The Minister of State for Women's Affairs agreed with the Minister of Culture, al-Dulaimi on the importance of organizing ongoing cultural events that will encourage the creative women as well as help them in directing, producing and printing their work art and culture."

The Ministries of State for Women's Affairs and the Ministry of State for Civil Society have agreed on Saturday to play the mediator role with global organizations to support the Iraqi organizations.

The Secretary of State for Women's Affairs has revealed to AKnews last Friday that her ministry launched a joint work program with the UN mission in Iraq to carry out the program of supporting women.
