The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga continues the official visit to Lithuania. She had today an official meeting with the President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite, in the Cabinet of the latter, where they discussed a range of topics of interest.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj.
President Jahjaga thanked President Dalia Grybauskaite for the invitation to visit Lithuania and for the participation in the conference “Women enhancing democracy: best practices”, where the presentation of President Jahjaga was accompanied by significant interest from the participants.
Speaking about the role of women and about her representation in the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, she recalled that in the conclusions of yesterday's conference, Kosovo was mentioned as a good example for women's representation in the Kosovo Assembly, where women comprise 30 percent of number of deputies, and for the legislation to combat violence against women and against trafficking of human beings.
President Jahjaga was engaged in the meeting for the increasement of collaboration between the two countries, although geographically apart from each other. She assessed education and culture as areas where this cooperation can start with concrete steps.
Also, Mrs. Jahjaga said that Kosovo can benefit from the experience of Lithuania on the path of the European integration process. In this plan, she stressed that Lithuania could help in lobbying for the recognition of Kosovo by as many countries as possible and called it very important that the European perspective is opened to Kosovo.
For her part, the President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite thanked President Jahjaga for the visit and the valuable contribution she gave at the conference yesterday.
She also stressed that both countries can increase their cooperation on many fields. Even President Grybauskaite said that Kosovo can benefit from the experiences of Lithuanian towards integration into European institutions.
President Dalia Grybauskaite stressed that Kosovo, on its road of integration should make more rapid reforms to meet the European Union standards, an institution, part of which it aims to be as soon as possible.
