Astana will host the first Congress of Women of Kazakhstan on March 5, Labor and Social Security Minister Gulshara Abdikalikova said on Monday.

"This congress is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence and we carry out a preparatory work on the eve of the Congress,” Abdikalikova said at a news conference.

She said the congress is open to all interested, not just to the candidates that have been delegated from the regions. The meeting is expected to bring together more than a 1,000 women.

"Women at the Congress should define their objectives in the strategy up to 2020,” she said.

It is planned to make such traditional women's forums and conduct them every five years.

“We launch the action "Tilekter tizbegi” to receive proposals for the Congress agenda. A number of activities, including conferences, meetings of scientists, doctors and teachers, as well as caravans will be carried out in the entire regions,” she said.

During the action, every woman of the country will be able to write the country's president her wishes, she said. It will be held from Feb.14 to March 1.

The organizers of the campaign are the National Commission for Women, Family and Demographic Policy under the President in conjunction with the Civil Alliance of Kazakhstan.
