Nepal recently hosted a "Conference on democracy and inclusive good governance for gender equality and sustainable development in South Asia" in capital Kathmandu. The programme opened with the SAARC anthem, a song penned by Kathmandu-based Indian diplomat Abhay Kumar. Nepal's education minister Chitralekha Yadav inaugurated the 3-day long event organized jointly by the South Asia Women's Network (SWAN), Stri Shakti and the Nepal based NGO, SEARCH. Women leaders from the 8 SAARC countries took part in the conference and discussed various issues concerning women and the problem of gender discrimination.
