The National Women's Council over the weekend inaugurated a water project that will serve seven families of impaired ex-combatants in Rutaraka village, Nyagatare sector in Nyagatare district.
The council also constructed a feeder road that connects the beneficiaries' village to the main road.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr. Jean d'Arc Mujawamariya.
Mujawamariya thanked ex-combatants for their role in liberating the country. "We thank you for the exceptional role you played in saving the lives of many during the struggle. That's why we cannot leave you behind in development," she said.
Christine Ndayisenga, the president of National Women's council in Nyarugenge District, said that the donation came after a series of discussions with beneficiaries on the key issues that were affecting their lives.
"One of them was a road that would facilitate easy movement of their wheel chairs to the main road," she said pledging more support to the impaired Ex-Combatants.
"On top of water taps and the feeder road, we promise you electricity in few days to come, she told the beneficiaries.
One of them, only identified as Bugingo, thanked the council for their generosity, calling their contribution an act of a true Rwandan woman.
"We thank you for this memorable contribution. We have received what you promised us and this action you have done mirrors a true Rwandan woman," he said.
