WOMEN politicians at LC3 levels have called upon the Government to stop combining two electoral areas to be represented by one lady councillor.

They said women representation in local councils should be increased by letting each electoral area have its own representative.

Annuciata Kyomugisha, the woman nominated to be the councillor of Swazi and Kabingo parishes in Kyamuhunga sub-county, said two parishes and two sub-counties to be represented by one person had left women issues unattended to.

Peace Tibakuna, the nominated for Kakanju and Nyabubare sub-counties, said it was expensive for one woman to run two electoral areas, adding that this had affected service delivery.

The women were speaking on Saturday during a security meeting with the Police and the Bushenyi district returning officer.

Barbara Murimira, the returning officer, declined to respond to the query and referred it to the district internal security officer, James Shilaku.

Shilaku said if women representation was increased, they would dominate councils.

Responding to the women's request for security agencies not to get involved in the election exercise, the district Police commander, Joab Wabwire, said the Police would not entertain situations that put people's lives in danger.

He said as a force mandated to maintain security, the Police have a stake in the election exercise.

Wabwire warned candidates against attending their rival's rallies, saying this could cause violence between supporters.

He also said the Police would not provide escorts for candidates.
