In October 2000, for the first time in its history, the United Nations Security Council acknwoledged that women have a key role in promoting international stability by passing Resolution 1325 on Women, peace and security. It calls on all parties to ensure women's participation at peace process, from the prevention of conflict to negotiation and post-war reconstruction. The Women Waging Peace Policy Commission was established to examine peace process with particular focus on the contributions of women. This report revisits the Salvadoran disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration program from the perspective of women and assesses how a gender perspective can improve such programs worldwide.
