This edition is focused on the role of women in Sierra Leone's security sector. Women constitute an important segment
of the country's population, with a crucial role in maintaining peace and democracy. Despite making up 51.3 % of the country's population women have been poorly represented in Governance prior to, throughout and after the nation's decade long war. This situation or trend needs to be reversed.

Most of the articles in this issue have been written by women who are practitioners in the security sector or civil society
activists. We hope that this edition will contribute to more nationwide acknowledgement of the valuable role women play in security.
