Making Disaster Risk Reduction Gender Sensitive

There has recently been a critical shift in the mainstreaming of gender perspectives into DRR: from a women-focused approach to a genderfocused approach, based on the premise that the roles and relationships of women and men in DRR should be analyzed within the overall gendered socioeconomic and cultural context. On top of this shift, the strategic focus of disaster management has changed from reactive disaster response to long-term proactive disaster risk and vulnerability reduction, where gender and DRR are considered necessary to achieving sustainable development.
