As a United Nations official in Bosnia Madeleine Rees, secretary general of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), helped to blow the whistle on the role of UN peacekeepers in sex-trafficking. More recently, she has played a key role in shaping the protocol for the investigation and documentation of sexual violence in war zones. In this interview with The Independent, Rees focuses on why we need to support the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) if we want to stop sexual violence in conflict.
