The #TaxJustice campaign by the Global Alliance for Tax Justice and Gender Working Group is an initiative addressing tax dodging by using social media to place pressure on the governments attending the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61). In a social media post, the participants will send a photo showing how they feel about tax dodging, write a demand for tax justice including the hashtags #TaxJustice and #CSW61 or #CSW2017, and send it to to national-level decision-makers or their CSW61 national representative.

Dear tax justice and women’s rights champions,
The #TaxJustice for #WomensRights Global Days of Action continue in force! Thank you so much. Help us keep up the momentum by taking a few more actions today.

So far, #TaxJustice for women’s rights tweets have come from 37 countries from Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Over 1 million people have had the opportunity to see tweets on #TaxJustice in the last week!
Important note on hashtags: Please use #CSW61 or #CSW2017 and #TaxJustice when you share. We are now focusing our pressure on the Governments attending the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. We have noticed that the hashtags getting the most traffic / use are #CSW61 and #CSW2017.

- Ghana: Rural women join ActionAid in Accra outside parliament and were interviewed by journalists demanding tax justice and women's unpaid care work and got great news coverage.
- Netherlands: Oxfam Novib had colourful placards in a lively 20,000 people Women’s March in Amsterdam.
- Uganda: The Tax Justice Uganda platform lobbied their politicians on how women pay a lot of tax especially through VAT, and held a radio talk-show on #TaxJustice for women's rights.
- Vietnam: ActionAid Vietnam released their own campaign video and created a sharegraphic on how tax well-spent could reduce Vietnamese women’s unpaid care burden.
- Ireland: ActionAid Ireland held a policy briefing in the Irish Parliament hosted by Senator Ivana Bacik, with presentations from tax justice activists Wanjiru from Kenya, Sharon from Zambia, Onyinye from Nigeria and Olivia from Ireland. Debt and Development Coalition Ireland launched a series of talks on #TaxJustice for women’s rights. Join the next one on Thurs 23 March.
- Slovenia: Ekvilib Inštitut organised an event in main public space Prešeren Square, using image theatre, holding signs explaining how tax injustice hits women.
- Kenya: Law students from the University of Nairobi held a gender and tax talk
- Spain: El Diario newspaper published this interview with Nicaraguan activist María Félix Estrada Alonzo visiting Oxfam Spain: “Certain tax politics mark the unequal development of Women”. Oxfam went live with this infographic (in either Spanish or English) and photo actions like this one.
- Brazil: INESC produced a GIF with 7 reasons to fight for Women’s Rights, among which #TaxJustice obviously!
- Philippines: The Freedom from Debt Coalition took action in front of their House of Representatives and released a press statement
- Asian Peoples' Movement on Debt and Development made a statement on women’s rights including tax-funded services reducing unpaid care work.
- Austria: Femme Fiscale is holding events and the Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation put out a press release.
- Nicaragua: Demanded #JusticiaFiscal for #DerechosdelasMujeres
- Public Services International members are demanding tax justice for the human right to water and women’s rights and have beautiful posters in English, French and Spanish.

- The Government of Ecuador hosted an official side event for government delegates “Women’s economic empowerment through tax justice”, at the United Nations Commission on Status of Women, New York, with the Global Alliance for Tax Justice.

2. Join our solidarity photo action and send it to your Government
Today you can help send a message in solidarity with other countries around the world by taking just one photo! How does tax dodging in your country make you feel? We want politicians to know how we feel! So we’re calling on you to send us a photo of your reaction.
- Take a photo that clearly shows your emotion.
- State the emotion you feel in your photo and add your demand, eg. “The situation shocks me. We need a @Globaltaxbody”, or “I’m angry. Make MNCs pay their fair share for #TaxJustice” or “I’m worried. Ensure progressive tax policies fund SDGs” (or one of the sample tweets).
- Post it on social media. Include the hashtags such as #TaxJustice and #CSW61 or #CSW2017
- Add a twitter handle or send it to the Facebook page of a national advocacy target. This can either be national-level decision-makers (Head of State, Finance Minister etc.) or your national representative to the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York. Find here the Twitter Handles and email addresses of your country's’ Permanent Mission / Ambassador to the United Nations in New York.
