ECE United Nations Economic Commission for Europe

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) was set up in 1947 by ECOSOC. It is one of five regional commissions of the United Nations.

ECA United Nations Economic Commission for Africa

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) was established by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN) in 1958 as one of the UN's five regional commissions. ECA's mandate is to promote the economic and social development of its member States, foster intra-regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa's development.

Commission on Science and Technology for Development

The Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) is a subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The Commission provides the General Assembly and ECOSOC with high-level advice on relevant science and technology issues. UNCTAD is responsible for the substantive servicing of the Commission.

Commission on Narcotic Drugs

The Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) was established by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) resolution 9(I) in 1946, to assist the ECOSOC in supervising the application of the international drug control treaties.

Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

The Commission guides the activities of the United Nations in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. It also reviews United Nations standards and norms in this area, including their use and application by Member States. It takes action through resolutions and decisions. The Commission acts as the governing body of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

Statistical Commission

The United Nations Statistical Commission, established in 1947, is the apex entity of the global statistical system. It brings together the Chief Statisticians from member states from around the world. It is the highest decision making body for international statistical activities especially the setting of statistical standards, the development of concepts and methods and their implementation at the national and international level.

United Nations Forum on Forests

On October 2000, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC), in its Resolution2000/35 established the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF), a subsidiary body with the main objective to promote “… the management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests and to strengthen long-term political commitment to this end…” based on the Rio Declaration, the Forest Principles, Chapter 11 of Agenda 21 and the

Commission on Sustainable Development

Established in 1992, the CSD monitors the implementation of UN Environment and Development initiatives and commitments, provides guidance at the local, national, regional, and international levels for the implementation of relevant policies. The Commission also provides financial, logistical, and technical support across these levels.

Commission on Population and Development

Established in 1946, and expanded to address development issues in 1994, the CPD is composed of 47 Member States which play and advisory role to the Economic and Social Council.
