Letter from the Economic and Social Council (E/CN.6/2011/10)

This year's substantive session of the Economic and Social Council was marked by a high level of participation and engagement from Member States, civil society and the United Nations system. The interest by various stakeholders reflects renewed confidence in the Council as a forum for meaningful debate and discussion on broader development challenges and achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

Note of the Secretary-General (A/HRC/16/34–E/CN.6/2011/9): Report of the United Nations Development Fund for Women on the Activities of the United Nations Trust Fund to Eliminate Violence Against Women

The Secretary-General has the honour to transmit herewith to the Commission on the Status of Women and the Human Rights Council the report of the United Nations Development Fund for Women on the activities of the Fund to eliminate violence against women, which was prepared in compliance with General Assembly resolution 50/166.

Report of the Secretary-General (A/HRC/16/33–E/CN.6/2011/8): Joint Workplan of the Division for the Advancement of Women, Now Part of UN Women, and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

The present report provides a review of the cooperation between the Division for the Advancement of Women, now part of the newly established United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. It also indicates a commitment to maintain and strengthen cooperation between the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and UN Women.

Report of the Secretary-General (E/CN.6/2011/6): Situation of and Assistance to Palestinian Women

The present report summarizes the situation of Palestinian women between 1 September 2009 and 30 September 2010, in accordance with Economic and Social Council resolution 2010/6.

Report of the Secretary-General (E/CN.6/2011/3): Access and Participation of Women and Girls in Education, Training, Science and Technology, Including for the Promotion of Women's Equal Access to Full Employment and Decent Work

The present report examines women's and girls' access to and participation in science and technology, including with regard to the acquisition of knowledge and skills, and science and technology production. It also assesses the content of science and technology from a gender perspective, and provides recommendations for consideration by the Commission on the Status of Women.

Report by the Under Secretary-General of UN Women (E/CN.6/2011/2)

1. In its resolution 64/289, the General Assembly established the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women). It requested the head of UN-Women to submit to the Commission on the Status of Women an annual report on the normative aspects of the Entity's work and on its implementation of the policy guidance provided by the Commission in paragraph 67 (c) of the resolution.
