CSW 60

Date:
Monday, March 14, 2016

The 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 14 to 24 March 2016. The priority theme was "Women’s empowerment and the link to sustainable development" and the review theme was "The elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls".

PeaceWomen and WILPF were excited to once again participate in CSW 60, and we demanded that we shift the gaze. This year, WILPF and PeaceWomen's participation and engagement in CSW 60 included the release of a written statement, the organization of a symposium in collaboration with MADRE with the aim to develop strategies to implement UNSCR 1325 considering the Global Study that was launched in October 2015 around the events of the 15th Anniversary of UNSCR 1325, and the support of other events organized by WILPF partners such as MenEngage Alliance. WILPF will also follow other events organizaed around CSW 60 and will bring a WILPF delegation of over 40 people from all around the world, including Australia, Denmark, Lebanon, Nigeria, Norway, Syria, the UK and the US.

This is the side event that we organized:

Implementing the Women, Peace & Security Agenda: A Roadmap for the 1325 Global Study Recommendations”, Tuesday March 15th, 1:00 - 5:00 PM at CUNY Law School (WILPF, MADRE, AWID, NW)

We also engaged in a variety of other events to strengthen feminist mobilisation for change:

After the event finished, we prepared this report, which include an overview of certain CSW60 events strongly related to PeaceWomen/WILPF’s the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and/or our key geographical focus areas. It therefore only represents a fraction of the WPS events held during CSW60.
