CONFERENCE: Kyrgyz Discuss Women's Role in Ethnic Harmony

A February 15-16 conference in Bishkek is considering the role women can play in restoring ethnic harmony.

"The Role of Women in Restoring Trust, Peace and Accord" attracted President Roza Otunbayeva and representatives of government agencies, domestic and foreign NGOs and the mass media.

Conferees intend to formulate a set of recommendations for the government's vision of ethnic development and consolidation.

CONFERENCE: First National Women's Congress meets in Peru

The city of friendship, Chiclayo, Peru, was the place chosen for the South America Region's first National Women's Congress, "Extraordinary Women," February 3-6.

The event was historic for the Peru area as it is the first congress organized by Women's Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Lourdes Palacios de Rimarachin.

MEETING: Astana Will Host First Congress of Kazakh Women

Astana will host the first Congress of Women of Kazakhstan on March 5, Labor and Social Security Minister Gulshara Abdikalikova said on Monday.

"This congress is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence and we carry out a preparatory work on the eve of the Congress,” Abdikalikova said at a news conference.

The first international conference on peace, security and governance was organised by the Centre for Peace, Security and Development (Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education) in collaboration with Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (CEIP) at a local hotel.
