War Will Never Win Peace - Say Yes To Ceasefire To Win Peace

25,000 posters carrying the phrase: "WAR WILL NEVER WIN PEACE - SAY YES TO CEASEFIRE TO WIN PEACE" were printed and pasted in 16 districts through the National Peace Council network, including some of the areas controlled by the the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Batticaloa, Trincomalee, and Mannar districts.

Ceasefire Agreement Vigil

A civil society vigil was held in honor of the 100 days of the ceasefire agreement. Also, a photo exhibition with a total of 260 photos was organized at the John de Silva Art Gallery in Colombo in commemoration of the 100 days of ceasefire. The reactions from the viewers encouraged the National Peace Council to take this exhibition around the country.

Women's Initiative for Peace in Nagaland and Sri Lanka

ilar Thein, a woman human rights defender and leading pro-democracy activist was arrested on 10 September 2008 and is currently being held at the Aung Tha Pyay Detention Centre in Rangoon, where she is at risk of torture and ill-treatment. WLB urgently appeals for her release and demands that the SPDC treat her humanely.

Third Women Congress of Western Sahara

Moved by the sufferings, human rights violantions and inhuman conditions reigning in their country, the National Union of Sahara Women urged individuals world-wide, humanitarian organizations and the international community, particularly the United Nations, to assume their responsibility in the protection of human rights in the occuppied territories of Western Sahara.
