MEN AND BOYS FOR GENDER EQUALITY

Across the globe, women are mobilizing against the violence and insecurity tearing apart their communities and nations. In Syria, they are standing up to the advance of the Islamic State. When tribes clash in Kenya or Nigeria, they are the first to say “Enough.” Facing grave risks, women make peace stick by bridging ruinous divides.

JOIN US for a virtual national conference on Cities for CEDAW(Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women). The meeting will take place in many cities throughout the US on 20 January 2015, (11:30 am – 1:00 pm PST and 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm EST).

In 2015 the world's governments will define a global agenda for sustainable development, amidst global trends of rising inequality, declining economic growth rates, and mega public-private partnerships accelerating the scramble for resources, assets, and markets. In this context, a new initiative housed at the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation – Regions Refocus 2015 – fosters regional and feminist solidarities toward justice.

From October 28 to 30, 2013, the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP), The World Bank, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) – North America, Women in International Security (WIIS), Promundo – US, and Sonke Gender Justice co-hosted a symposium titled Men, Peace & Security: Agents of Change at the USIP headquarters in Washington, DC.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, adopted by the Security Council unanimously in 2000, and subsequent resolutions represent the international legal framework calling for increased roles and representation of women in the security sector, in formal peace processes, in conflict prevention and resolution, as well as in transitional governments and post-conflict rehabilitation.

The Australian Peacewomen Awards The Australian Peacewomen Awards will take place on Thursday 28 May 2015 from 5:30-9pm. The awards will recognise the talents and dedication of women whose activities have promoted peace at the local, national and/or international levels.
