CODE PINK: Women for Peace Press Conference 1/11/11 at UMC

A Press Conference will be held at 12:00 noon tomorrow, Tuesday, 1/11/11, at the University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona, to allow our community's many peace-minded groups to offer prepared statements in response to the Saturday Safeway Massacre targeting Representative Gabrielle Giffords.

2nd Biennial War Crimes Conference: Justice? – Whose Justice?

This conference is an initiative between SOLON, the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and the Centre for Contemporary British History to explore themes surrounding judicial roles and responses to war crimes (broadly construed)– past, present and future – and also responses to such initiatives, from victims/victors, interested agencies and commentators, including the UN, NATO and various local, regional and international NGOs.

The Role of Women in Promoting Peace and Development in the Horn of Africa

The Horn of African conferences have since its inception focused on issues related to peace, security and development. So far, none of the conferences has yet had an explicit focus on the linkages between gender, peace and development. This time the focus of the conference is set on these linkages. We know that the violence has had disproportionate effects on the lives of women.

Policy Forum 2011: Women in Mediation

The Policy Forum will be the culmination of two weeks of consultations with women mediators from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. These experts will raise the profile of women in mediation and provide specific recommendations to those who plan and support negotiations about the importance of inclusive, multi-track processes.

Maria Eriksson Baaz, the Nordic Africa Institute, Uppsala will discuss key ideas in the report “The Complexity of Violence. A critical analysis of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)”, which she has coauthored with Maria Stern.

Robin May Schott, Danish Institute for International Studies, Copenhagen, will comment on the report.
