Since the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on Women, Peace and Security, many changes have taken place in the peace and security context, both at operational and policy levels. Yet, despite decades of national and international commitments, much more needs to be done.

This September at the UN General Assembly in New York, governments and leaders will meet again to set the next global development agenda. People, especially the poor, seldom have representation in these forums. Instead, these are often dominated by the most powerful interest groups like rich nations and their corporations.

"This dialogue will inform the fifth plenary session of the ICESDF taking place from 4-8 August. The Committee is working to finalize its report proposing options to the UN General Assembly "on an effective sustainable development financing strategy to facilitate the mobilization of resources and their effective use in achieving sustainable development objectives," as mandated in the Rio+20 Summit outcome document.

"The symposium will underscore the interconnection between peace and development. Interactive workshops will cut across silos, integrating traditionally separate developmental sectors under a human rights framework.
All will reinforce the “Right of Peoples to Peace.”

You are cordially invited to participate in the 65th Annual United Nations Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI), which will be held at United Nations Headquarters, from Wednesday, 27 August, to Friday, 29 August, 2014. This will be the first time since 2007 that the Conference has returned to the UN Headquarters in New York.

"This interactive meeting will provide civil society, including NGOs, the media, the private sector and other relevant stakeholders with the opportunity to reflect upon the various post-2015 development-related processes which have occurred during the current session of the General Assembly, with a view to identifying possible inputs to the Synthesis Report of the Secretary-General; to the work of the 69th session of the General Assembly;

On Tuesday, 9 September 2014 the General Assembly will hold a day long event on the Culture of Peace with an opportunity for UN Member States, UN system entities, civil society including NGOs, media, private sector and other interested stakeholders to discuss ways to promote the Culture of Peace.
