The side-event takes place in the context of global consultations, within and outside the United Nations system, on what comes after the Millennium Development Goals expire in 2015. A major question relates to the specific place of conflict, violence and disaster in the new agenda. A key emerging message is that insecurity, injustice and violence disrupts development progress and destroys people's lives in all societies.

IPI will be streaming a Women, Peace & Security Series event on Friday, September 20th at 1:15pm EST featuring Mary Robinson, Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region of Africa.

This event will launch the joint publication of WMG/FES paper titled “Strengthening Gender Justice: Recommendations for the Sustainable Development Goals and the Post-2015 Development Agenda.” Additionally, this event will launch the WMG compilation document “Gender Equality, Women's Rights and Women's Priorities: Recommendations for the Proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Post- 2015 Development Agenda&rdquo

RAW in WAR is an NGO focused on working to support women human rights defenders in war and conflict zones.

Each year the organization hosts the Anna Politkovskaya Award, in memory of Anna Politkovskaya and to celebrate the work of an outstanding woman human rights defender. In previous years recipients of the award have included Natalia Estemirova, Dr Halima Bashir, One Million Signature Campaign and Marie Colvin.

The People's General Assembly will provide the people's perspective on current development models and the model of development that people demand of their governments.
